Dealing with Dementia: Dr. Peipei Wishnow’s Own Story about Memory
This is Dr. Peipei Wishnow. Today I want to share my personal story about how hard it is when a loved one has dementia, and why I am so passionate about protecting brain health and memory as we age. I would also like to reveal to you what I have discovered.
Me & My Mother
My mother turns 93 years old this year and she began showing dementia symptoms when she was only 75. At the beginning all we knew was that she was accusing my father, a retired medical doctor, a Qi-Gong master, a devoted husband, and a man with high integrity—of having affairs with any women in my mother’s sight. It was enormously stressful for my father, a devoted husband, who turns 95 years old this year. Despite understanding what was happening, we could do nothing but watch my mother deteriorate year after year.
In the last few years my mother has stopped recognizing me when I visit her in China. She was so excited when I told her who I was and loved seeing me, but five minutes later she forgot who I was. It is heartbreaking to see my kind, loving mother becoming a stranger, unable to share the old stories, laughter, and our tender moments together.
I am not only scared about my mother’s situation, but about my own as well. As I get older every day, I feel the clock ticking. I don’t want to end up like my mother! It is too painful! I am absolutely determined to continue researching to find possible tools that can be used to reduce the risk of dementia and protect my brain health and cognitive functions.
Important to Reduce Brain Inflammation
My research has taught me the importance of reducing brain inflammation in protecting our brain health as we age. Cutting-edge research has shown that chronic inflammation in the brain is a key risk factor of cognitive decline.
What to Do?
One important way to reduce the inflammation risk is to live a healthy lifestyle. Diet, exercise, sleep, nutrition, good fats—in other words, all the commonsense measures we do for heart health. However, it seems to me these are not enough. I have been doing this for many years; yet, I still began to feel my own cognitive changes in the last few years. My ability to multitask had reduced noticeably, my work efficiency decreased, and one day I forgot the passcode to enter my own office. I was beyond scared!
The Study
That is when I read a study newly published by Gary Small, MD, the Director of UCLA Longevity Center, and his team based on a special highly bio-available form of curcumin called Theracurmin Curcumin. The study revealed that this special form of curcumin significantly improved memory and mood after treatments of 90 mg twice a day for 18 months. PET scans also showed that after 18 months the treated group had shown significantly healthier brain structure in two regions: the amygdala and the hypothalamus. Both are related to memory processing, decision making, and mood responses.
What is curcumin? It is the active compound extracted from the Turmeric root. (It is what gives curry its yellow color). Thousands of pieces of literature have reported the broad health benefits of curcumin resulting from its strong anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties.
However, what is interesting is that when taken as a supplement pill, such as those you buy in stores, regular curcumin or turmeric are problematic because they have low bio-availability. In other words, the human body finds it very difficult to absorb the curcumin or the turmeric into the blood stream, so most of it ends up in the toilet.
However, the Theracurmin curcumin that was used in the UCLA study is different. To aid delivery it was formulated with nanotechnology into a sub-micron size that is 100 times smaller than the regular curcumin. It can be absorbed into the blood stream easily and delivered to the brain after passing the blood brain barrier via blood flow. That is why Dr. Small and the other UCLA scientists received such groundbreaking results.
Good News
The good news is that we have formulated our product, Interceuticals Better Memory™, based on the exact dosage and regiment used in the UCLA study. We also have companion product, Interceuticals Better Memory PM™, for sleep quality, mitochondria health, and mental clarity. When taking the combination together, you will see faster and better results.
I have been taking these products and have really noticed improvements in areas such as mental clarity and the ability to multitask. In future blog posts, I will share with you my own experiences using the products and some of the insights I have learnt from other users.
We have a lot to learn about our brain functions, but if we move one step at a time, we will get there. Everybody’s body is different, including our memory capacity and our brain function. One thing we all have in common is that we want to protect our precious brain and our invaluable memory.
Time is not on our side, ACT EARLY and ACT NOW!
To your health,
Peipei Wishnow, PhD
